Sparkling performance by Rakesh Shukla and Anand Shukla powered Bihar to a 54-run win over Orissa on the last day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Baripada Stadium in Baripada today. This was Bihar’s 15th win in 19 Ranji Trophy matches against Orissa.
Rakesh Shukla scored 44 and unbeaten 101 in his two innings, while Anand finished with a match haul of 11 wickets for 123 runs, including six for 77 in the second innings. After mustering 177, Bihar bowled out Orissa for 122 to take a first-innings lead of 55 runs.
In the second innings, Bihar declared at 210 for three. Chasing 266 for victory, Orissa were all out for 211. Arun Patel was outstanding performer for Orissa, scoring a total of 77 runs and bagging four wickets. Chinmayananda Jena made his first-class debut for Orissa in this match, while his elder brother and captain Ashokananda Jena passed 1000 first-class runs.
